Northern Hearts Mission

Northern Hearts is a registered charitable organization located in Thunder Bay. To decrease our rates of heart disease in Northwestern Ontario, Northern Hearts wants to:

Increase the awareness of heart disease
Improve the understanding of heart disease
Equip our community with useful tools to modify risk factors
Provide scientific yet practical information about heart disease
Enhance the lives of individuals, and their families, who are living with heart disease

Northern Hearts delivers unique programs for Northwestern Ontario heart patients and their families.

Our Vision is a healthier population in Northern Ontario through cardiac awareness with education and research.

Our Mission is a heart healthier Thunder Bay - so our extremely high incidence of Heart Disease improves.

Our Goals:

To decrease the incidence of cardiac disease
To prevent development of acquired risk factor
To do pre-primary (primordial), primary and secondary prevention
To equip people with heart disease with knowledge and practical tools, to slow down progression of disease, and to have a better lifestyle
To create a community environment for people with cardiac disease to share and support each other
To promote cardiac research

Our Strategies:

To establish a sustainable model that is broad community-based
To establish a Cardiac Education Division
To establish a Cardiac Research Division
To establish a respective Steering Committee for each
To establish guidelines for Education and Research built on the platform of fundraising.

All our studies are based specifically on local health issues.

All monies raised in Northwestern Ontario... stay in NWO.
